jesse Ronson Crowned Champion in Kitchener

London’s Jesse “The Bodysnatcher” Ronson made his third appearance inside the BTC Fight cage on Saturday, August 5th. In his first two competitions, Ronson dominated his opponents taking home first-round submission victories over Troy Lamson at BTC 9: Rampage and Nordin Asrih at BTC 18: Next Generation. However, the third time came with more pressure as Ronson officially moved up a weight class to chase down the inaugural BTC Fight Welterweight championship.

Standing across the cage from Ronson was Mexican knockout artist Ricardo “Woody” Chavez. With 20 finishes in 21 victories, Chavez had a 95% finish rate coming into the bout. Woody also held the size advantage over the Canadian as he has taken many middleweight bouts throughout his career; including winning the Jasaji Fighting League middleweight title in June 2023.

Usually, one to only let his fighting do the talking Ronson put on a theatric walkout for the crowd in Kitchener. As “The Bodysnatcher” walked out to a heavy metal song “The Only Thing They Fear is You” from the Doom video game soundtrack he carried a black coroner’s body bag in tow drawing cheers from the local crowd.

After the bout started both men quickly got to work with aggressive in and out movements and feints looking for weaknesses. The first solid blow of the match was by Chavez as he landed a cracking kick to Ronson’s lead leg. Immediately following the kick The Bodysnatcher unleashed one of his trademark body shots. Although Chavez seemed to take it in stride within 5 seconds he folded to the ground and shelled up. Ronson followed him to the ground throwing an endless torrent of punches and Chavez was never able to regain a defensive position. Referee Brian Beauchamp stepped in to end the bout just 56 seconds into the first round.

Ronson is now the 13th champion in BTC Fight history and the first man to hold the BTC Fight Welterweight championship.

Ronson’s win streak has been increased to four first-round victories since leaving the UFC in October 2022. The Bodysnatcher has been highly active, appears to be in his best form to date, and is stacking up victories over difficult opponents. Hopefully, we get to see Ronson defend his title in the near future against another world-class opponent as he continues to prove why he’s one of the best fighters to ever come out of the Great White North.
